Sometimes with a glance. For Ernesto Bocca all it took was a fleeting glance at a captivating 19th-century palace in the heart of Florence, to be quite literally swept off his feet. And from this brief encounter a story began: it’s not difficult to understand why Count Bocca was swept off his feet when he first saw Palazzo De Renzis Sonnino, on the site where the Monastery of Sant' Anna once stood, in one of the oldest areas of downtown Florence. The hotel opened in December 1960, and thanks to its modern comforts it quickly became a favourite with prestigious Guests like the Shah of Persia during his official visit to Italy. Today, as in the past, the hotel’s rooms and suites, many of them with stunning views over Florence and of the gardens, the spacious and luminous public areas, the attention to the excellence of its cuisine, and the green oasis with its pool, make the hotel a landmark not only for foreigner visitors but also for Florentines for whom it is a much-loved rendezvous.
The stunning table in the middle of our main lobby, handmade by Pitti Mosaici which is one of the few remaining family run businesses in Florence mastering the ancient art of Pietra Dura inlay, a tradition created by the Medici. During your stay you’ll recognize many of the Medici crests around the property: on the entrance doors and the reception desk, on the room keys, on the pins worn by our staff. Pitti Mosaici has inlayed exclusively for the hotel the amazing Medici Family Crest you can admire here: each ball of the crest comes with a unique stone, each one with different powers.
A fascinating and unexpected view opens up walking through the entrance of the Sina Villa Medici: a magnificent and lush garden with swimming pool with a touch of glamour in the heart of Florence!
