Brace for masses of bicycles, winding narrow streets, swathes of outdoor markets and soaring hotels – Shanghai is inspirational, dynamic and contemporary. Once a modest town of fishermen and weavers, Shanghai is now the most populous city in China and continues to develop at an astronomical rate. The Huangpu River divides the city into the west (Puxi) and the east (Pudong).
Guests at our Shanghai hotels find beauty at every turn. Pudong continues to add to its strikingly modern skyline and the best view of Shanghai is from the district's 468-m high Oriental Pearl TV Tower. At the base of the tower is the Shanghai History Museum.
Directly across the Huangpu River, in Puxi, is the Bund, a former international settlement with an imposing mix of ornate European and Asian architecture including French, British, Russian and Japanese buildings displaying gothic, baroque and neo-classical styles. Many of Shanghai's stylish hotels, cocktail bars and fine restaurants are located near The Bund.
Getting out and about from your Shanghai hotel is best done on the metro or by taxi. Hiring a bicycle or joining a cycle tour is another great way to see the city. Shanghai is China's cultural heart, with its residents determined to embrace the Chinese dream.
